Student Travel Subsidy The East Lakes Division provides a student travel expenses matching subsidy to schools (Departments or recognized student groups, NOT individuals) within the region when students attend, and register for, our regional meetings. The purpose of the subsidy is to increase student participation at our regional meetings by leveraging Departmental spending in the same cause. The subsidy is administered by the ELD treasurer (B Pigozzi), not the host institution, and the subsidy is a maximum of $30 per student. Approval is contingent on a letter from each department chair, sent prior to the meetings, explaining their department's contribution to the students travel expenses (vans, housing, per diem, etc.). The letter should also provide a list of the names of students attending. Students must actually register for the meetings to qualify for the subsidy. Students appearing at the meetings but who are not mentioned in the Chairperson's letter are not automatically qualified for the subsidy. Payment will be made after the meetings are over and after the host institution provides the Treasurer a list of the student registrants. This subsidy is available to schools from within the East Lakes Region ONLY. Because of the virtual zero travel costs, the host institution is excluded from this subsidy. Payment cannot be made to individuals; payments are normally made to Departments or recognized student organizations. Please send letters or questions to: pigozzi@msu.edu or Bruce Wm.
