UT Geography Goes Maritime

Dr. Lindquist Presents UT Geography's Freight Research through the Intermodal Transportation InstituteOn June 9, 2006, The Department of Geography and Planning, UT's Intermodal Transportation Institute and the Great Lakes Maritime Research Institute hosted the Great Lakes Maritime Data Workshop in Detroit.  This meeting marked the beginning of an initiative to assemble a distributed data resource for Great Lakes Carriers, Ports and regional economic development organizations.  Participants included the Army Corps of Engineers, Lakes Carriers Association, American Great Lakes Ports Association, Canadian Chamber of Maritime Commerce, Transport Canada, the US Maritime Administration, the St. Lawrence Seaway, NOAA, and port officials from Duluth and Detroit. 

Grad Student Guy Schafer at the GLMRI Workshop This meeting was the first of several meetings in a multiyear project sponsored by the US Department of Transportation in partnership with The Great Lakes Maritime Research Institute.
